about

“Song for John” is a documentary film created and produced by Barbod Valadi about Brisbane-based multi-genre multi-instrumentalist and educator John Stefulj, whose work at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University includes teaching jazz students and directing various ensembles.

This entertaining and informative documentary premiere provides subtle insights into music industry facets by sharing John’s narrated perspectives about his life and outlook whilst showing the process of making a live recording of Barbod Valadi’s composition “Song for John,” a work involving a small jazz ensemble and featuring John exploring and expanding improvisational nuances through playing 8 woodwind instruments whilst being appreciative of ensemble interaction, the recording venue, the recording and the film project.
